Alone, but never lonely.

Alone, but never lonely.

“He wasn't antisocial—he always had friends, and everybody liked him—but he could go off and entertain himself for hours. He didn't seem to need toys or friends. He could be alone without being lonely” (Krakauer 107).

Inspiration or Fool?

As Carine is describing Chris, she touches on how self-sufficient he was and also how he was in a world of his own. When he started his journey to Alaska, he left no notice for his family to inform them but he was totally okay with traveling by himself because he enjoyed being alone and away from other people. Also, in the beginning of the story, it's explained that Chris meets a man and speaks with him for a little while. The man who chris was speaking with, Gallien, offered to drive Chris to anchorage and help him to survive. Chris didn't feel the need to go, he knew he was just fine on his own. He decided to not have relationships with people because he wanted his journey to be purely with only himself. Chris was fearless and took chances by himself to fulfill his life and his outstanding journey.
